Collision Damage Waiver-Theft Protection (CDW-TP) is not insurance. The purchase of CDW-TP is optional and not required to rent a vehicle in the Cayman Islands. If CDW-TP is purchased, the rental company contractually waives the responsibility for all or part of the cost of damage to, loss or theft of the vehicle during the rental period unless the coverage is invalidated as outlined in the rental agreement.
Please be aware that most car insurance policies from outside the Cayman Islands do not provide coverage in the Cayman Islands. Employees of the local rental car company are not qualified to evaluate the adequacy of the customer's car insurance coverage. The renter should contact their insurance company before arrival with any questions regarding their specific coverage. If the renter declines CDW-TP, the renter is responsible for the full value of damage to, loss or theft of the vehicle.
CDW-TP reduces the renter's Collision Damage Waiver and Theft Protection excess to 0 USD.
As a customer, you have a choice as to how you would like to pay for fuel.
Option 1- Prepay Fuel
This option allows the renter to pay for the full tank of gas at the time of rental and return the tank empty. No refunds will be issued for unused gas. Pre-paid gas is available at 5% less than the local fuel prices.
Option 2- We Refill
This option allows the renter to pay Alamo at the end of the rental for gas used but not replaced. Price per gallon will be higher than local fuel prices. A 50% surcharge will apply.
Option 3- You Refill
This option allows the renter to return the vehicle with a full tank of gas to avoid extra fuel charges.
All major credit cards, issued by either American Express, Mastercard, Visa, Diners Club or Discover, are accepted. All cards presented must be in the renter's name. Cash, pre-paid cards or debit cards can be used at the end of the rental to pay for any outstanding balances, but the deposit must be secured with a credit card at the start of the rental. A security deposit plus the estimated cost of the rental will be taken at the time of rental. The deposit is $300 USD for all vehicle categories.
Roadside Assistance Plus (RSP), if selected and paid for at the time of rental, is available 24/7 without additional charges.
RSP includes the replacement of lost keys (including remote-entry devices), towing (not related to an accident), flat tyre service (if no inflated spare is available, the vehicle will be towed) and lockout service (if the keys are locked inside the vehicle). Jumpstarts and fuel delivery service for up to 5 gallons (or equivalent litres) of fuel are also provided. Tyre damage beyond repair as a result of driver neglect is the responsibility of the renter.
Roadside Assistance Plus is also available without payment of this flat-rate fee. It will then be billed according to the actual costs incurred for each assistance service rendered. Roadside Assistance Plus is an optional product. Before purchasing, you may wish to check if your coverage is adequate.
Roadside Assistance Plus does not cover damage caused by the use of the wrong fuel or any failure to take all reasonable measures to look after the vehicle keys or any other device that unlocks the vehicle and/or enables the vehicle to be started.
All drivers must present a fully valid driving licence. In addition, all renters must provide a valid photo ID such as a passport or government-issued photo ID. A valid credit card in the renter's name must be presented upon collection of the vehicle.
If the driving licence is written in a language and characters different from those of the country of rental, an International Driving Permit is also required. Renters are advised to check whether local authorities require foreign drivers to present an International Driving Permit to avoid the risk of potential fines. Renters with licences from countries that are not part of the International Driving Permit Agreement should carry a certified translation.
Third-Party Liability (TPL) protection is not insurance. The purchase of TPL is optional and not required to rent a vehicle. If TPL is purchased, the rental company contractually waives the responsibility for the cost of damage to third-party vehicles or injuries to third parties during the rental period, up to the policy limits, unless the coverage is invalidated as provided in the rental agreement. TPL does not provide protection related to damages to the rental vehicle or injuries to the driver of the rental vehicle.
If accepted, TPL provides the renter and authorised drivers with up to 1,000,000 USD (liability to third parties resulting in death or bodily injury) in respect of any one person arising out of any one accident, or up to 5,000,000 USD (for liability to third parties resulting in death or bodily injury) in respect of any number of persons in respect of any one claim or series of claims arising out of any one accident, and up to 250,000 USD (liability to third parties' property damage) in respect of any one claim or series of claims arising out of any one accident.
Please be aware that most car insurance policies from outside the Cayman Islands do not provide coverage in the Cayman Islands. Employees of the local rental car company are not qualified to evaluate the adequacy of the customer's personal liability insurance coverage, insurance purchased on third-party websites and credit card coverage. The renter should contact their insurance company before arrival with any questions regarding their specific coverage.
If the renter declines TPL, the renter is financially responsible for the cost of damage to third-party vehicles or injuries to third parties during the rental period.
