Enterprise car hire locations - Holtze

Holtze is approximately 20 km from the city of Darwin. As such, the most convenient way to get there is by flying into Darwin International Airport. This international airport has connections with major cities across Australia, as well as some overseas routes to neighbouring Asian countries. If you need to organise a rental car, go to the Enterprise Rent-A-Car location in the airport when you land or pick up your vehicle from the Darwin downtown branch.

What to do and see in Holtze

Booking a car rental in Holtze is a great way to explore Darwin and the surrounding Northern Territory. Holtze is a quiet suburb of Darwin, but it is still close to some major attractions. If you're travelling with your family, the first thing on your list should be Palmerston Water Park. Ideal for a fun day out, this water park has fun splash areas for the little ones to enjoy, as well as dizzying water slides to satisfy even the biggest adrenaline junkie.

With a car hire or van rental in Holtze, you'll have an ideal base to discover the city of Darwin. The capital of the Northern Territory is famous for its tropical weather, resulting in year-round warmth, gorgeous scenery and terrifying crocodiles. You can see the latter at Crocosaurus Cove, which has everything from adorable baby crocs to their giant, snapping parents. You can even dive with crocodiles in a controlled cave dive here.

If that's not enough for you, then head out on the Arnhem Highway in the direction of Kakadu. You can take a jumping crocodile cruise down the Adelaide River. This unique experience, which is not recommended if you're nervous, will let you watch mighty saltwater crocs leap out of the water. There are some less scary activities in the area, too. Visit the Window on the Wetlands Centre to do some birdwatching. Alternatively, enjoy a Pudakul Aboriginal Cultural tour and learn about Australia's indigenous culture. In these family-friendly tours, you can even try your hand at traditional activities, like basket weaving or didgeridoo playing.

Crocodiles lurk in many of the waters around Darwin, so take care by swimming only in designated areas. For a croc-free swimming experience, head out to Litchfield National Park. Here, you will find yourself surrounded by the full glory of nature, including waterfalls, wildlife and brilliantly colourful birds. The swimming holes, many of which have their own waterfall, are a great way to cool down in crystal-clear water. This is an ideal spot to spend the day hiking and enjoying the incredible scenery.

The area around Holtze and Darwin has a great food scene, with the markets being a particular draw. The most famous ones are Mindil Beach Sunset Markets, which boast food stalls from around the world. Nibble on your favourite street food while watching the spectacular sunset over the ocean. You'll also find a weekend street market in Palmerston, a suburb close to Holtze. This area has a more local vibe with fewer tourists. It is a great place to get some fresh, delicious food, and much of it is locally sourced.

Driving in Holtze

One of the biggest surprises for visitors to the Northern Territory is the lack of speed limits. For clarification, there are speed limits within towns and cities, but when you're out on the open road, there are none. This is not the case anywhere else in Australia. Highways in the NT are usually broad and flat, but you should still take care when driving. There are a number of hazards you might encounter that, if you are travelling at speed, can cause problems.

First, it is important to keep an eye out for animals. The Northern Territory has extremely large farms (known as stations). These are usually unfenced, allowing sheep and cattle to roam free. So, don't be surprised if your road trip is interrupted by a group of cows crossing the road. When night falls, more hazards appear in the form of kangaroos and other wild animals that can do serious damage to your vehicle. It is best to avoid driving between dusk and dawn, which is when most marsupials are awake and active.

In addition to the animals, you'll need to watch out for road trains. This is the name given to Australia's enormous trucks, the largest in the world, which can be over 50 metres long. Drive carefully around road trains. In dry weather, they can cause major dust clouds and gravel. Always ensure that you have a totally clear line of sight. You can never be too cautious when overtaking one of these huge vehicles.

This part of Australia is divided into wet and dry seasons. In the wet season, from November to April, torrential rain can be hazardous. Pay attention to local weather reports, as flash floods are a common problem. If a road is closed due to floods, do not attempt to cross it under any circumstance. Bushfires are also common in this region.

The Northern Territory is known throughout Australia for its "Wild West" vibe, which you'll see for yourself when going for a scenic drive in your car hire. Before heading out on a road trip, plan your routes carefully. In many parts of the NT, there are unsealed roads only accessible by a 4WD vehicle. For this reason, you may want to consider a 4WD car hire in Holtze. You may lose your mobile phone signal while driving, so bring a paper map with marked petrol service stations. Always ensure you have plenty of water and food with you before going for a drive in the Australian outback.
